In AccountingSuite, Department, Class, and Project help organize transactions so you can analyze business performance at different levels. These dimensions can be applied to many business structures, including departments, cost centers, product lines, branches, customer orders, and internal initiatives.
Use Department for the broad organizational area that owns the cost or revenue, such as Sales, Production, Finance, or Administration. Use Class for a more specific operational segment, such as a cost center, product group, service line, or work type. Use Project for the most detailed level, such as a customer order, contract, campaign, installation, or internal improvement task.
Example:
- Department: Production
- Class: Assembly
- Project: Customer Order #4587
In this example, Department shows the main business area, Class shows the operating segment, and Project shows the specific job. This makes it easier to track costs, compare performance, and report profitability from a high-level view down to individual work items.
